“The current observation mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to monitor the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan is the 127th mission of the CIS Secretariat to observe the elections and referendums conducted across the member states of the Commonwealth. Meanwhile, it is the 12th observation mission opened by CIS during the elections in Azerbaijan,” Nurlan Seitimov, CIS Deputy Secretary General, told journalists Tuesday following his meeting with Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC).
He highlighted the discussions with the CEC Chairman, as the CIS delegation was briefed about the preparations underway at the constituencies, the legislation, as well as the issues regulating these processes.
According to him, an estimated number of 150, including 10 long-term observers from the CIS member states would be involved in the elections.
“They will have an opportunity to visit the Azerbaijani districts, and hold meetings with leaders of the political parties, candidates, members of the constituencies and precinct election commissions, and the media,” Nurlan Seitimov noted.
“During the meeting, we expressed confidence that the current election campaign would contribute to the further development of the democratic processes in Azerbaijan. The elections are peacefully conducted and we wish Azerbaijan successful elections,” the Deputy Secretary General added.
