Azerbaijan continues to effectively apply human rights protection principle: Ombudsperson

Azerbaijan continues to effectively apply human rights protection principle, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, said at a seminar on protection of the rights of foreigners and stateless persons held in institutions, AzVision.az reports.

"The globalization that has engulfed the world and mass displacement of people as its manifestation are caused by various factors, and experts name armed conflicts, wars, political and economic crises, natural disasters, shortages of food and drinking water, and poor quality medical and social services as the main causes of forced displacement,” Aliyeva noted.

According to her, the intensification of migration flows in recent years and the expansion of their geographical map have had a positive impact on the demographic and economic situation of the countries; however, against the background of social adaptation of the participants in the process and the formation of relations with the local population and state bodies, they also have an impact on the issues of ensuring human rights.

“The increasing economic and international importance of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its favorable geographical position raises the attractiveness of our country for citizens of different countries. Against the background of these development trends, the effective application of the principle of human rights protection continues in our country. We, as a national human rights institution, take large-scale measures to protect, effectively implement, and promote the rights of representatives of various segments of the population,” the Ombudsperson emphasized.
