Snap parliamentary elections kick off in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has commenced early parliamentary elections, AzVision.az reports.

Voting began at 8:00 AM and will conclude at 7:00 PM.

The pre-election campaign for candidates started 23 days before the election day, in line with the official calendar, and was halted 24 hours before the voting began.

On June 28, President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree dissolving the 6th convocation of the Azerbaijani Parliament and called for early elections, which were scheduled for September 1.

For the first time, the elections will be held across all sovereign territories of Azerbaijan. Special attention has been given to organizing elections at the highest level in the territories recently liberated from occupation. In these areas, 54 polling stations have been set up to ensure that over 42,000 eligible voters can exercise their constitutional rights.

A total of 990 candidates are running in the elections, and all necessary conditions for a free and fair campaign were provided in accordance with legal requirements. Over 600 international observers and more than 112,000 local observers are monitoring the elections. Additionally, webcams have been installed at 1,000 polling stations across the country to allow for live and continuous observation of the voting process.

On September 1, portable ballot boxes will also be used, which have been provided to all polling stations.

In connection with the elections, the Civil Rights Protection League, in collaboration with the ORACLE ADVISORY GROUP (USA), and the public association "Tereggi," together with the Italian research company SWG S.P.A., will conduct exit polls during the elections.
