  Baku hosts Second Security Forum

The Second Baku Security Forum titled “Contemporary Challenges to the Security of Global Transportation Networks” was held in the Azerbaijani capital on Tuesday.

Organized by the Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS), the event gathered representatives of the special service agencies from about 50 countries.

First, the address of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the forum participants was read out and a video, highlighting the topic of the forum was screened.

In his remarks, Ali Naghiyev, Colonel-General, Chief of the State Security Service said that the First Baku Security Forum was held last May. He noted the importance of the Forum in terms of expanding information exchange and other areas of interaction between partner institutions.

Ali Naghiyev also pointed out the importance of coordinating the activities of special service agencies in the fight against international terrorism and situations considered a threat to the security system as a whole, describing the event as an important platform for the security structures of countries to discuss issues of common interest.

The Chief of the Security Service mentioned that this year's forum was held on the eve of COP29, underscoring the fact that acts of terrorist sabotage targeting the transport lines used in the transportation of energy resources can cause economic and environmental disasters of a global nature. He underlined that in this regard, it is necessary to further strengthen joint efforts and increase the efficiency of common activities.

Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev emphasized President Ilham Aliyev’s constant political support to the organization of events in Azerbaijan on the topical international matters. He also expressed his confidence that this conference would contribute to the formation of joint approaches and improvement of the action strategy in combating the risks faced by the security of global transport corridors.

Subsequently, the event continued its work with the speeches of the heads of the delegations of foreign special service agencies. The participants expressed unanimous support to the establishment of the Secretariat of the Baku Security Forum at the initiative of Azerbaijani President of Ilham Aliyev, which will operate on a permanent basis in Baku.
