Baku Seaside National Park receives International Large Urban Park award in the Netherlands

The Baku Seaside National Park, a cherished gem of Azerbaijan's capital, has been awarded the esteemed Large Urban Park Award at the 2024 Future Green City World Congress in Utrecht, Netherlands.

The Baku Seaside National Park was presented with the award in recognition of its uniqueness, ecological and public importance, and preservation.

The International Large Urban Parks Awards aim to recognize the quality of parks, the skills of the people who manage them and the value they bring to the cities they serve. It enables Cities around the world to benchmark their performance and understand where improvements could be made.

The World Urban Parks Organization (WUP) aspires to complement and attain the same level of recognition as the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which represents protected areas on the world stage. To achieve this, the organization will build membership to levels where it is truly representative of the diverse international urban parks, open space and recreation community. The WUP will act as an umbrella to national associations and connect park agencies, non-governmental organisations, universities, research institutes, business, community groups, individuals and allied sectors such as health, tourism, and resource management.

The Future Green City World Congress is an initiative of Royal Association Stadswerk the Netherlands and Royal Dutch Association of Landscapers and Gardeners (VHG). In Utrecht, they bring together the worlds of green and civil engineering, in cooperation with World Urban Parks (WUP) and the International Federation of Municipal Engineering (IFME). The congress connects construction, greenery, infra and water. By showing different solutions and by connecting networks in these domains, we are building a city with a future together.

From 23 until 26 September 2024, over the course of four days, more than 3,000 experts from around the world will share their passion and knowledge about the liveable green city with a future.
