“We strongly reject the fundamentally erroneous and unacceptable allegations made by French President Emmanuel Macron at the UN General Assembly on September 25 about Azerbaijan allegedly exerting “pressure” on Armenia and “territorial tensions,” the Western Azerbaijan Community said in a statement.
“It is extremely hypocritical that the leader of France, a country that supported Armenia’s thirty-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands, turned a blind eye to the expulsion of a million Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, and at one time opposed the steps taken for a peaceful settlement of the conflict, is now talking about peace and international law. Let us recall that the UN General Assembly, where Macron is now demonstrating hypocrisy, witnessed France’s attempts to prevent the adoption of a relevant resolution to resolve the conflict in 2008.
It is obvious that France, with its imperialist agenda, is unhappy with the fact that Azerbaijan has resolved the conflict and restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with international law. Because this limits its ability to interfere in the affairs of the region. Macron’s government is supplying Armenia with large quantities of weapons in order to reignite the conflict in the region, trying to create the impression that there is some kind of tension in the region. Emmanuel Macron's slander against Azerbaijan serves the same purpose.
We demand that France abandon these destructive intentions, stop supplying weapons to Armenia, not interfere in the affairs of the region and not hinder peace. At the same time, we call on Armenia not to become an instrument in France's games, to stop the large-scale weapons program, to focus on achieving peace with Azerbaijan and to create conditions for the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia,” the Community added.
