  Azerbaijan and OIC explore opportunities for collaboration at COP29

Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General Designate of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OIC, as well as the prospects for cooperation within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to cooperation with the OIC, adding that the country is always willing and eager to support the growth of regional cooperation within the organization.

He noted that the expansion of cooperation in the fields of economy, energy security and transport and communication is one of the priority areas for both sides.

The two emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation between member states of the organization and contributing to joint economic development in the region. They highlighted the importance of expanding intra- and interregional trade in accordance with the activities and goals of the organization.

FM Bayramov informed the ECO Secretary General about the current regional situation, the restoration and reconstruction works underway in the liberated territories, as well as the current state of the normalization and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan commended Azerbaijan's active and productive participation in the activities of the Organization, describing Azerbaijan as a reliable partner for OIC member states. The general secretary said that the OIC attaches special importance to the idea of transitioning to a green and clean environment, noting that they are ready to support the implementation of steps and initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in this regard. He praised the importance of selecting Shusha as the tourism capital of the Economic Cooperation Organization for 2026. The parties shared ideas about hosting collaborative events this year. They also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest at the meeting.
