UN must renew attention to issue of missing persons - Azerbaijani official

The UN must renew its attention to the issue of missing persons, and a special rapporteur on missing persons must be appointed, Secretary of the State Commission of Azerbaijan for Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Citizens Gazanfar Ahmadov said in his speech at the international conference, "Addressing the Issue of Missing Persons: Upholding Families’ Right to Know the Truth," AzVision.az reports.

"The politicization of humanitarian issues, double standards, and an atmosphere of impunity create conditions for the deepening of humanitarian crises. We believe that the world is in serious need of new efforts, concepts, and approaches to address this problem," he mentioned.

Ahmadov reminded that Armenia held Azerbaijani territories under occupation for many years.

He also noted that Armenia still does not provide information about the fate of missing Azerbaijani citizens or the locations of mass graves.
