The UK Minister for Climate Kerry McCarthy is currently on a visit to Azerbaijan, said UK Ambassador in Baku Fergus Auld, AzVision.az reports.
In his video address, the ambassador noted that Minister McCarthy will be leading the UK delegation at the PreCOP29-related events.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan will host a PreCOP event on October 10-11. Each Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is preceded by a preparation meeting known as the PreCop, which takes place around a month in advance. The goal of this meeting is to give a selected group of countries an informal setting to debate and exchange opinions on some major political aspects of the negotiations in order to offer, to the extent possible, political advice for future negotiations.
COP29 will be held in November this year. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Within two weeks, Baku, having become the center of the world, will host about 70,000-80,000 foreign guests.
