Azerbaijani delegation attends global summit of World Travel and Tourism Council

The delegation of the Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency participated in the Global Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC 2024) held in Perth, Australia from October 8-10.

As part of the event, the Azerbaijani delegation represented by the head of the agency's apparatus Kanan Gasimov and the CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Bureau Florian Sengstschmid met with Julia Simpson, CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council, and Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group.

During the discussions at the summit, the Azerbaijani delegation provided information about the preservation of the "Khinalig and Migration Route Cultural Landscape" included in UNESCO's World Heritage List, the protection of biodiversity in tourism, and the development of community-based tourism.

It was noted that the inclusion of tourism on the agenda for the first time at COP29 to be held in Baku in November this year, will contribute to increasing the role of tourism in the fight against climate change, as well as reducing the negative impacts of climate change on this sector.

The summit is a platform that brings together travel and tourism industry leaders and government representatives annually to discuss development trends shaping the future of the tourism sector, challenges facing the industry, the sector's impact on the global economy, and to propose innovative solutions.
