A total of 26 mining facilities operating in Armenia are toxifying the ecology of Azerbaijan and the entire South Caucasus, Head of the Azerbaijani Entrepreneurship and Market Economy Development Foundation Sabit Baghirov said during a briefing on the illegal activities of Armenia's mining industry in Baku today, AzVision.az reports.
He brought out the fact that Armenia hasn't acceded to the UN Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes.
According to the UN, transboundary water resources are used in 153 countries around the world, the official pointed out.
"The joint use of transboundary water resources is a relevant issue for all of humanity. Azerbaijan is a participant in the UN Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. Armenia's accession to this convention could play a very important role in reducing the risks of pollution in transboundary rivers," added Baghirov.
