Four years have passed since the settlement, one of Azerbaijan's ancient residential areas, was cleared of Armenian occupiers.
On October 21, 2020, along with Minjivan settlement, the villages of Babayli, Uchuncu Aghali, Saril, Khumarli, Hajalli, Khurama, Jahangirbeyili, Turabad, Ichari Mushlan, Girag Mushlan, Malikli, Udgun, Baharli in the district, Balyand, Papy, Tulus, Tinli villages of Jabrayil district, and Gejagozlu, Ashaghi Seyidahmadli and Zargar villages of Fuzuli district were liberated from the occupiers.
Minjivan settlement is located on the bank of the Araz River. It was formed as a result of the settlement of families who came from the Minjivan village of South Azerbaijan due to famine in 1795-1798, and the name of that village was given to the new settlement. In the 19th century, two villages named Minjivan were recorded in Zangazur district.
The settlement was occupied by Armenian Armed Forces in 1993. Before the occupation, there were residential buildings, schools, libraries, kindergartens, and a railway station in the area. After the First Karabakh War, Armenians destroyed all residential buildings, schools, libraries, kindergartens, and also dismantled and took away the railway lines.
