Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis, met with Mikhail Yevdokimov, Russian Ambassador to the country.
During the meeting, the sides hailed the high-level development of relations between the two countries. They stressed the key role of reciprocal visits at the level of heads of state in enhancing bilateral ties.
The discussion highlighted the positive impact of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Azerbaijan this August, as well as the two visits of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Russia in October, on the dynamic development of relations between the two nations.
Sahiba Qafarova underlined that the relations between the two countries were developing in both legislative and other areas, underscoring the successful collaboration of their parliaments within various international parliamentary organizations.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Mikhail Yevdokimov confirmed that the Russian Federation would participate at a high level in both COP29 and the parliamentary conference to be held within COP29.
Additionally, the parties condemned the biased documents adopted by the European Parliament regarding Azerbaijan and the organization’s anti-Azerbaijan activities.
The Speaker stated that such actions by the European Parliament contradict the principle of parliamentarism, and Azerbaijan strongly rejects the organization’s biased and unilateral resolutions that distort the realities on the ground.
