Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament meets with President of Global Council for Tolerance and Peace

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament, met on Wednesday with Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP).

During the meeting, Sahiba Gafarova described the Global Baku Summit of Religious Leaders as a pivotal platform for addressing pressing global issues.

Highlighting the GCTP's pioneering efforts in fostering global harmony and promoting peace and tolerance worldwide, Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that the people of Azerbaijan share these values. She described multiculturalism, tolerance, and interfaith dialogue as fundamental aspects of Azerbaijani society and essential pillars of the country's state policy.

The Speaker also provided insights into the events organized by Azerbaijan on topics such as tolerance, multiculturalism, intercultural dialogue, and mutual understanding.

Focusing on Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29, Gafarova highlighted the event as a unique opportunity to unite diverse groups, promote dialogue, and achieve understanding between them. Sahiba Gafarova underscored that religious tolerance plays a crucial role in addressing environmental issues.

She also briefed Al Jarwan on the upcoming Parliamentary Conference in Baku, scheduled for November, which will take place alongside the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29). Gafarova expressed confidence that the conference would provide a notable opportunity for discussing current global issues.

Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the high-level organization of the Global Summit of Religious Leaders and the warm welcome extended to him during his visit to Azerbaijan. He described the summit as a unique opportunity for discussing peace and tolerance. The GCTP President also provided an overview of the organization he leads.

The meeting concluded with discussions on potential opportunities for cooperation.
