Organized by Rhenus Group, a side event on “Climate justice and equity” was held as part of COP29.
Community members from several countries, local and foreign experts and NGO representatives delivered opening remarks at the event.
The side event explored the key challenges faced by Small Island Developing States and desert regions as a result of climate change and ways to address them.
Highlighting the limited natural resources and financial means which negatively impact on well-being of the population of the Small Islands, the speakers underscored the need for accessible climate financing from the countries which are responsible for the largest share of emissions.
The speakers also highlighted the importance of technological innovations for the efficient management of water resources, water recycling and reuse.
