On November 14, Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Abdullah al-Alimi, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen.
Abdullah al-Alimi congratulated Azerbaijan on the excellent organization and hosting of COP29. He described Azerbaijan’s accomplishments as the success of the entire Muslim world. He considered the arrival of a large number of representatives, heads of state, and government in Azerbaijan these days as an important event, noting that COP29 had achieved great results.
Abdullah al-Alimi also expressed admiration for the beauty of Baku.
He then congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on the liberation of Azerbaijan’s lands from occupation and the full restoration of the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Recalling that a number of Yemeni students had received education in Azerbaijan during the Soviet era, he asked for the tradition to be continued.
The President of Azerbaijan expressed his gratitude for the kind words and congratulations, adding that the successful hosting of COP29 in Azerbaijan was a shared success.
President Ilham Aliyev stated that Armenia had destroyed Azerbaijan’s material and cultural heritage during the years of occupation, including holy shrines and hearths belonging to the Islamic religion, and desecrated them by keeping pigs in mosques.
The head of state said that Azerbaijan had liberated its territories from occupation and put an end to Armenian occupation.
The sides also touched upon Muslim solidarity, expressed their satisfaction with cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, noted that Azerbaijan and Yemen always stand by each other, and exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation in various areas.
