Baku Initiative Group to attend UN event on protecting rights of people of African descent

The 35th session of the United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent will be held at the UN headquarters in New York on December 2-6. This event, recognized as one of the major global platforms, will focus on Principles, Provisions and Pathways to Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent, AzVision.az reports.

A side event on Restoring Justice and Eradication of Colonialism will be arranged by the Bonaire Human Rights Organization, the Permanent Mission of the Bahamas to the UN, and the UN Expert Working Group on the Rights of People of African Descent.

Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), will attend this landmark gathering to showcase BIG’s projects addressing colonialism and its consequences. The initiatives emphasize the restoration of rights for colonized peoples and propose actionable solutions.

The session and side events aim to address historical injustices, socio-economic inequalities, and human rights violations experienced by people of African descent. Participants will focus on dismantling legal and systemic barriers and put forward recommendations for long-term solutions.
