Putin offers apologies to President Ilham Aliyev over AZAL plane crash

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a phone call to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on December 28.

During the phone conversation, Vladimir Putin expressed his apologies regarding the tragic incident on December 25 when an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger aircraft on the Baku-Grozny route was subjected to external physical and technical interference in Russian airspace, AzVision.az reports.

He once again conveyed his deep and sincere condolences to the families and relatives of those who died in the accident and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that the plane was only able to make an emergency landing thanks to the pilots' courage and professionalism. He emphasized that the aircraft's fuselage had numerous holes, and passengers and crew members sustained injuries from foreign particles that penetrated the plane during flight. Testimonies from surviving flight attendants and passengers further confirmed the occurrence of external physical and technical interference.

The two leaders discussed the need for a thorough and comprehensive investigation into all details of the tragedy and bringing those responsible to justice.

Ilham Aliyev mentioned that an international team of experts, formed at Azerbaijan's suggestion, has already begun working on investigating the causes of the accident.

Both presidents stressed the importance of conducting the investigation process with complete transparency and regularly informing the public about the progress.
