The community expressed deep concern over the biased coverage aired on January 12, 2025, AzVision.az reports.
The broadcast, centered around an interview with notorious Azerbaijanophobe Tessa Hofmann, alleged that illegal actions were taken against Armenians in Azerbaijan in 1990. The historical context of the former conflict was presented in line with the radical Armenian nationalist narrative, completely ignoring ethnic cleansing of over a million Azerbaijanis by Armenia during the conflict, occupation and destruction of Azerbaijani territories, and cultural heritage.
The statement also highlights the radio's silence on the ethnic cleansing of 300,000 Azerbaijanis from Armenia between 1987-1991 and the killing of 216 Azerbaijanis in Armenia.
The community said that instead of spreading hate and creating tensions in the region through racially discriminatory broadcasts, the channel should condemn Armenia's racist policies, as evidenced by the recently surfaced speech of Armenia's first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, confirming that ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis was a state policy during his presidency.
The Western Azerbaijan Community has denounced the racial discrimination perpetrated by Deutschlandfunk and called on the radio's management to take appropriate measures regarding this unacceptable step.
