“The relations between the Azerbaijani and Indian peoples have deep historical roots and have developed over different periods. Following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence, India has recognized the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its internationally recognized borders,” said Fariz Rzayev, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs during the reception held in Baku marking the 76th anniversary of India’s Republic Day.
According to him, there have been favourable opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in recent years. The Deputy FM highlighted dynamically developing bilateral cooperation in such areas as energy, trade, education, and culture.
He expressed Azerbaijan’s interest to develop transport and communications in the region to increase this dynamics.
“In this vein, the efficient utilization of the North-South international transport corridor is only possible through our joint efforts. This also provides a reliable and secure option for the Middle Corridor countries,” Fariz Rzayev noted.
“Restoration of direct flights between the two countries led to significant increase in mutual tourist flow. The number of the Indian tourists traveling to Azerbaijan has increased by more than 40 times over the last 4 years. India is currently ranking third in terms of tourists arriving in Azerbaijan,” Rzayev mentioned.
Highlighting growing interest of the Indian filming industry in Azerbaijan’s historical and attractive destinations, the Deputy FM added that this would contribute to the mutual cultural exchange, intercultural dialogue, and enhancing relations between the two country’s peoples.
