Ilham Aliyev said Petersburg and Azerbaijan have long been cooperating within the framework of bilateral relations between the countries.
"In this positive light, we need to strengthen regional cooperation. We do hope to strengthen potential with Petersburg," Ilham Aliyev said.
Georgiy Poltavchenko, for whom Baku is a historical homeland, noted that the city has changed a lot.
"The entire country was watching the first European Games and it is obvious that everything is done with a great love in the city," the Petersburg governor said.
Georgiy Poltavchenko noted that Azerbaijan and Petersburg have traditionally good relations.
"We are interested in shipbuilding because Saint Petersburg is a seaside city," the governor said.
