Azerbaijani MPs to attend Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in New York

Azerbaijani MPs Soltan Mammadov and Sevil Mikayilova will embark on a visit to New York, USA, on February 10, to participate in the meetings of the Organizing Committees of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament and 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, as well as IPU Parliamentary Hearing at the UN Headquarters.

The meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament will feature the approval of the report from the previous meeting, and discuss the conference's agenda, program, and the intended draft declaration.

The 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament will adopt the report of the second meeting held last year, review the organizational issues of the Summit, and agree on its initial program, including the topical matters.

As part of the visit, Azerbaijani MPs will also participate in IPU Parliamentary Hearing to be held at the UN headquarters themed "Scaling up action for the Sustainable Development Goals: Finance, Institutions, and Politics," a joint initiative of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The meeting will host some 300 participants, including parliamentarians, Speakers of Parliament, advisers and experts, from more than 60 countries. The hearing will take an in-depth look at ways to reboot the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to turbocharge its 17 SDGs, designed to fight poverty, reduce inequality and reset the planet on a more sustainable path.

The Azerbaijani delegation’s visit to New York will end on February 16.
