Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Tuesday with the Pakistani delegation led by Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate, on the margins of the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).
During the meeting, discussions focused on the Azerbaijan-Pakistan partnership, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, and post-conflict developments in the region.
Fondly recalling his meeting with Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani during his official visit to Pakistan last year, Minister Bayramov emphasized that intensive close contacts and reciprocal visits contribute to the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The officials highlighted the existing potential for further developing Azerbaijani-Pakistani relations, which are based on friendship, brotherhood, and mutual respect, in both bilateral and multilateral formats. They also touched upon bilateral cooperation within regional and international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), expressing gratitude for continued mutual support of each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Both also stressed the role of relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries, the deputies, and the enhancement of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening the contacts between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Pakistan, who share common historical and cultural ties.
The Azerbaijani FM briefed the Chairman of the Pakistani Senate on the post-conflict developments and realities in the region, the ongoing reconstruction and demining operations in the liberated territories, as well as the reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
