Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament meets with Speaker of National Council of Bhutan

Sahiba Gafarova, Azerbaijan’s Speaker of Milli Majlis, met with Lungten Dorji, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Bhutan, who is visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Baku.

During the meeting, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that it was the first visit from the Kingdom of Bhutan made to Azerbaijan at the level of parliament speakers, expressing confidence that the visit would be instrumental in expanding inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries.

The sides noted that both peoples advocate for peaceful ideas, underscoring the importance the initiatives to restore global peace and stability.

The two Speakers also stressed the availability of opportunities to continue expanding the ties between the two countries.

The parties expressed readiness for more active cooperation within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established on the initiative of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, holding discussions in this regard.

Speaker of Bhutan National Assembly Lungten Dorji said that his visit had left an unforgettable impression on him. He shared his positive experiences with Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, describing the 15th plenary session as an extremely successful one.

The Speaker of the National Assembly expressed his strong intention to call a meeting with his Government and table his proposals for expanding relations with Azerbaijan upon his return to his home country.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of shared interest, as well as further expansion of inter-parliamentary ties.
