Khojaly genocide victims commemorated in Strasbourg

As part of the “Justice for Khojaly!” international public awareness campaign, Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe arranged a commemorative event Wednesday in the French city of Strasbourg marking the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

The event gathered members of the diplomatic missions to the Council of Europe, as well as representatives of local and Azerbaijani communities.

The event kicked off with a minute of silence for the innocent victims of the Khojaly tragedy.

Addressing the event, Fakhraddin Ismayilov, Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, briefed the participants about the Khojaly genocide. He noted that a total of 613 people, including women, children and elderly, were brutally murdered as a result of the genocide. The diplomat also highlighted the importance of the “Justice for Khojaly!” international public awareness campaign launched by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, in 2008.
