A commemorative event was held at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Qatar to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. The event, attended by embassy staff and members of the Azerbaijani community in Qatar, began with a minute of silence in honor of the victims.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Qatar Adish Mammadov delivered a speech detailing the Khojaly genocide. He explained that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces, supported by the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former USSR, attacked Khojaly and massacred 613 civilians.
Ambassador Mammadov emphasized that the remarks of former President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan about the Khojaly genocide further revealed that the massacre was driven by an ethnic hate campaign against the Azerbaijani people. He also highlighted that, at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan was the first to provide a political and legal evaluation of the Khojaly genocide, declaring February 26 as the Day of the Khojaly Genocide.
Additionally, it was mentioned that Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, leads the global "Justice for Khojaly!" campaign.
Participants of the event had the opportunity to view a photo stand and an exhibition of books in Arabic and English, which provided factual accounts of the genocide.
