Witness in Vardanyan Ttial: Mines moved from Armenia to Karabakh via Lachin

During the ongoing trial of Ruben Vardanyan, an Armenian citizen facing charges of war crimes, terrorism, and crimes against humanity, an Armenian-origin witness provided key testimony regarding illegal mining activities in Karabakh.

Hayrapetyan Kamo Eduardovich, a resident of Karabakh, testified that after Vardanyan’s arrival in Khankendi, landmines were laid in areas along the borders of territories liberated by Azerbaijan following the 44-day war, with Vardanyan allegedly financing these operations.

He further revealed that the mines were transported from Armenia to Karabakh through the Lachin corridor. “Residents of Khankendi were aware that mining activity increased significantly after Vardanyan arrived. Posters warning about the presence of mines were put up in schools, residential areas, forests, and open fields. However, no such warnings existed before the 44-day war,” he added.

The trial is set to continue on March 18.
