Azerbaijani Ombudsman participates in annual meeting of Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions

The Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights, Sabina Aliyeva, led a delegation at the annual meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) held in Geneva. The event saw the participation of leaders and representatives from national human rights institutions around the world, along with experts and representatives from international organizations.

During the meeting, Ombudsman Aliyeva addressed the gathering and discussed key agenda items. She also spoke at a thematic session titled “Women's and Girls' Rights: The Role of NHRIs,” where she shared detailed information about the activities her office has undertaken in this area.

Aliyeva emphasized that the protection of women’s rights, support services for victims of violence, and the expansion of economic and social opportunities for women remain a constant priority. She also discussed efforts to promote gender equality and protect women’s rights, highlighting numerous initiatives aimed at improving legislation in these areas.

The Ombudsman noted that complaints related to violations of women's rights, domestic violence, early marriage, and gender-based violence are swiftly investigated, with psychological and legal support provided to victims. She also mentioned ongoing collaboration with relevant authorities to address these issues.

Additionally, Aliyeva participated in another thematic session on "National Human Rights Institutions and Persons with Disabilities" and held meetings with officials from GANHRI and the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions, where they exchanged views on future cooperation opportunities.
