  Conference participant: Due to France

"Our goal is to secure the release of political prisoners in Kanak. We thank the Baku Initiative Group for their support in this effort," said Aude-Christelle, a representative of the Kanak people, at the international conference on "Colonialism: Erasure of Religious and National Identity" held in Baku, AzVision.az reports, citing AZERTAC.

She emphasized that, due to France's colonial policy, the number of Kanaks has decreased by 40% since 1980.

“3,500 individuals who participated in the political struggle were arrested and killed in prisons. The French government continues to restrict the education, language, and religion of the Kanak people at every step. Our people are facing threats and pressures. They are trying to intimidate the Kanak people and prevent them from pursuing independence. However, the Kanak people will continue their struggle against France's colonial policy and will not abandon their path to independence.”

Aude-Christelle expressed gratitude to the Baku Initiative Group for organizing such events and for their participation in the protection of the rights of minority peoples.
