Azerbaijan and EU discuss future cooperation prospects

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Simon Mordue, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Magdalena Grono, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, to discuss Azerbaijan-EU cooperation and key regional issues.

During the meeting, both sides explored opportunities to strengthen ties in areas such as economy, trade, energy security, green energy, and humanitarian efforts. They emphasized the significance of Azerbaijan-led energy projects that contribute to Europe’s energy supply and security, highlighting the importance of expanding cooperation in both traditional and renewable energy sectors.

Minister Bayramov also provided insights into Azerbaijan’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts, including large-scale development in liberated territories and ongoing mine clearance operations. Discussions also covered joint efforts with the EU in demining activities and addressing the issue of missing persons.

Regarding the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, Bayramov noted that while progress has been made, Armenia’s ongoing territorial claims and military buildup continue to pose challenges to advancing peace efforts.

The meeting reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the EU while addressing regional stability and economic collaboration.
