  German President: "Karabakh is Azerbaijan"

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has reaffirmed Berlin's clear stance on the Karabakh issue. Speaking at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, he made Germany's position explicit.

"We have always stated that this is your (Azerbaijan’s) territory, and today we reaffirm Germany’s stance," President Steinmeier said in response to a question about why no action had been taken against Armenia during its 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands.

He also acknowledged the progress made over the past year and expressed his hopes for a final peace agreement:
"A crucial moment has arrived for reaching an agreement. I hope this opportunity will be seized, a peace treaty will be signed, and lasting peace will be established in your region. I have great hopes for this."

President Steinmeier emphasized that Germany is ready to provide the necessary support in this process.
