A delegation comprising the officials of the European Union (EU), Simon Mordue, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Magdalena Grono, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Dorota Dlouchy – Suliga, Head of Division at EEAS, and Peter Michalko, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan, familiarized themselves Wednesday with the ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts in Azerbaijan’s city of Aghdam.

Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, briefed the delegation about the construction works carried out in the village. He said that a total of 203 houses have been constructed in the Sarijali village, one of the major reconstruction sites in the district, as part of the first phase. Additionally, various educational, economic, social, and public service institutions, as well as cultural and community centers, have been established. Infrastructure work, including internal roads, electricity, telecommunications, water and gas supply has also been completed and relocation of the former internally displaced persons has been ensured.

The delegation members also viewed the Aghdam Industrial Park. Agil Azizov, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Economic Zones Development Agency, noted that the park was established by the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated 28 May, 2021. The park is designed to develop the industrial potential of the liberated territories, while also boosting opportunities for employment in the region.

The EU officials also visited the Aghdam Juma Mosque.
