Azerbaijani Prosecutor General meets with UNODC’s Corruption and Economic Crime Branch Chief

Kamran Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General, met on Tuesday with Brigitte Strobel-Shaw, Chief of the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), on the sidelines of the 6th plenary meeting of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) and 10th session of the Steering Committee.

Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said that following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991, the country became a UN member on March 2, 1992. He also highlighted National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s participation in the 49th session of the UN General Assembly in 1994, which laid the foundation for a strong Azerbaijan-UN partnership.

The Prosecutor General praised the UNODC’s Corruption and Economic Crime Branch for its initiatives in promoting the rule of law and combating corruption. He also emphasized Azerbaijan’s positive experience and successful cooperation with the UN in this area.

Additionally, Kamran Aliyev noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Azerbaijan in November 2024, demonstrated the country’s strong commitment to intercultural dialogue and climate action.

UNODC official Brigitte Strobel-Shaw commended the high level of cooperation with Azerbaijan and praised the country’s contributions to international legal cooperation.
