Azerbaijan’s prosecutor general visits Austria

An Azerbaijani delegation led by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev paid a working visit to Vienna on the sidelines of the 34th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), AzVision.az reports.

In accordance with the agreement reached between the Prosecutor General’s Office and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), a special session titled "Strengthening crime prevention and justice mechanisms for environmental crimes to improve climate action" was held at the UN headquarters with the support of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Austria. The event was designed to present the achievements of country’s presidency at COP29 to the international community.

In her remarks, Ghada Fathi Waly, UN Under-Secretary-General, the Director-General/Executive Director of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV)/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), underscored Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of COP29 and hailed the progress made here. She commended Azerbaijan’s effective and constructive cooperation with the UNODC. Ghada Fathi Waly expressed her confidence that this partnership would pave the way for broader initiatives in the field of justice, security and environmental protection at the global level.

Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev emphasized that COP29 was excellently and professionally organized under the leadership of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, describing the outcomes of this prestigious event as of global importance.

The session was attended by heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Vienna, representatives of international organizations, lawyers, experts in climate and environmental law, as well as representatives of law enforcement authorities from various countries.
