Azerbaijan’s achievements as COP29 Presidency praised during meetings in Mexico

A delegation led by Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and COP29 Lead Negotiator, visited the United Mexican States on May 23.

As part of the visit, meetings were held with Enrique Ochoa Martínez, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico; Camila Zepeda, Mexico’s Chief Climate Negotiator; and representatives of the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI), one of the country’s leading think tanks.

During the meeting with Undersecretary Enrique Ochoa Martínez, the sides hailed the fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and Mexico within international organizations and other multilateral platforms. Rafiyev briefed Martínez on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities, steps taken toward the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and upcoming events to be held under Azerbaijan’s initiative and chairmanship within various multilateral frameworks.

The sides also discussed cooperation on combating climate change and exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency.

At the meeting with Mexico’s Chief Climate Negotiator Camila Zepeda, Azerbaijan’s significant achievements as the COP29 Presidency were highlighted, and its effective leadership in the process was commended.

At the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI), discussions focused on Azerbaijan’s growing regional role following the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020, the new geopolitical realities in the South Caucasus, the country’s multifaceted foreign policy, and its initiatives and activities within international organizations.

Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, the substance of the related negotiations, and the progress achieved to date were highly praised.
