“Over the past nine years, the sale of gold and silver in domestic and international markets has generated 1.691 billion manats (approximately $995 million) in revenue. Of this amount, 94 percent—or 1.592 billion manats—came from exports. An additional 224 million manats were paid to the state budget in the form of taxes and social transfers,” said Zakir Ibrahimov, Chairman of the Executive Board of AzerGold CJSC, at the International Geology and Mining Forum in Nakhchivan.
He emphasized that gold is currently Azerbaijan’s leading non-oil product in terms of foreign currency earnings.
“We plan to increase our contribution to the national economy by expanding our export capacity,” Ibrahimov said. “Our goal is to become one of the country's top taxpayers, reaching an annual turnover of 1 billion manats within the next five years.”
