First regional seminar of ICESCO held in Baku

ICESCO 1st Regional Training Workshop on Safeguarding and Nomination of Cultural Heritage assets took place at the ICESCO Regional Office in Baku, the ICESCO said on Facebook, AzVision.az reports.

The Workshop is organized in line with the vision of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), as well as the strategic goals of the Heritage Center and the ICESCO Regional Office in Baku.

Its main objective is to support the efforts of ICESCO member states in preserving and promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The Director of the ICESCO Regional Office, Dr Abdulhakeem AlSenan, delivered a welcoming address, expressing gratitude to the guests and seminar participants and emphasized that culture is not only a part of historical heritage but also a crucial element of the present, shaping identity and serving as a bridge between peoples.

According to Dr AbdulHakeem Alsenan, protecting cultural heritage is an investment in the future, giving future generations a sense of belonging and confidence.

Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, also delivered a welcome speech and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Foundation and ICESCO. A Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations is expected to be signed in the near future, as well as participation in the international cultural forum “Rukh Sanat,” which will be held on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan.

She believes the signing of the memorandum will lay a strong foundation for the implementation of joint projects aimed at preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of Board of the "Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve noted the importance of cooperation with ICESCO, a leading organization playing a strategic role in uniting the efforts of regional countries in the field of cultural heritage preservation. According to him, preserving historical and cultural heritage and actively promoting local culture are integral elements of national identity formation and serve as a strong foundation for sustainable development and cultural progress.

Recognizing the key role of cultural heritage in preserving identity, strengthening mutual understanding, and promoting sustainable development, the seminar is aimed at enhancing the capacity of specialists in the participating countries.

Special focus is placed on deepening participants’ knowledge and practical skills in areas such as documentation and preservation of sites, development of national inventories, and especially the preparation and submission of nomination files for inclusion in the Islamic World Heritage List—an initiative designed to identify and protect outstanding heritage monuments of the Islamic world.

Representatives and specialists from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan are taking part.
