Alparslan Bayraktar: New projects strengthen brotherhood and create opportunities

The 4th Türkiye-Azerbaijan Energy Forum held today will further diversify cooperation between our nations and open new horizons, I believe, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, said during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 4th Türkiye-Azerbaijan Energy Forum in Izmir.

Reflecting on the success of previous forums, the minister expressed determination to pursue new goals and elevate the strategic partnership to greater heights.

“The projects we’ve implemented and planned consistently strengthen our brotherly ties, creating fresh opportunities and reinforcing our friendship. These collaborations across various sectors are closely monitored and regularly discussed by our working groups within the forum’s framework. We are pleased with the progress in oil, natural gas, renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity market regulations, transmission, distribution, and mining. We highly value these efforts that advance our energy cooperation and commend all our team members,” Bayraktar emphasized.

He highlighted that the deep-rooted brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan extends beyond cultural and political ties, thriving in economic and strategic domains throughout history.

“The ‘one nation, two states’ principle is vividly embodied in our major energy projects. Energy drives our countries’ development and prosperity. With their geostrategic positions, rich resources, and advanced infrastructure, Türkiye and Azerbaijan complement each other while significantly contributing to regional and global energy security. Our successful oil and gas projects, starting with Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz, have progressed to a new phase with the Shafag-Asiman project signed this year. Strengthening cooperation in the Karabakh, D-230, and Dostlug fields remains a key priority,” the minister stated.

The Cooperation Agreement on Natural Gas, signed on May 14 last year, was noted as particularly significant, enhancing energy security and regional collaboration. Efforts to increase Azerbaijan’s natural gas exports to Türkiye are also advancing swiftly. Additionally, the Igdir-Nakhchivan Natural Gas Pipeline, inaugurated on March 5 this year under the leadership of Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Ilham Aliyev, ensures Nakhchivan’s supply security and further strengthens Türkiye-Azerbaijan ties.

“The Türkiye-Syria Natural Gas Pipeline, launched on August 2, is a strategic step supporting energy flows, peace, and prosperity in our region. With robust infrastructure and deep ties, Türkiye and Azerbaijan will continue to be reliable partners in regional and global energy markets,” Bayraktar added.

Beyond oil and gas, Bayraktar emphasized the importance of the electricity transmission line project connecting Türkiye and Nakhchivan: “Once completed, it will secure Nakhchivan’s energy supply and elevate our electricity trade. The Green Energy Corridor project, involving Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Bulgaria, further showcases our strong collaboration.”
