China-Azerbaijan relations reach highest level due to strategic leadership, says Ambassador

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has conducted eight visits to China and held over ten meetings with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping in various formats. A strong collaborative relationship has been established between the leaders of the two countries, and a profound personal friendship has been solidified. President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping addressed President Ilham Aliyev as his "dear friend." Thanks to the strategic leadership of the two heads of state, China-Azerbaijan relations are steadily evolving, and have already ascended to the highest level in their history, said Lu Mei, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Azerbaijan, at a briefing dedicated to the results of President Ilham Aliyev's recent visit to China.

Noting that President Ilham Aliyev met with Chinese President Xi Jinping a day after his arrival in China on August 31, the Chinese diplomat noted that the two leaders exchanged views on further strengthening political trust between the two countries and deepening bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation. “The meeting concluded with the signing of several important agreements. During the discussions, Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned that China and Azerbaijan are companions on the path of development and progress. He expressed Beijing's commitment to continuing its collaboration with Azerbaijan to maintain the strong momentum of their cooperation and unlock new opportunities for mutual benefit and shared development. The meeting successfully charted the course for the next phase of the China-Azerbaijan comprehensive strategic partnership, giving fresh impetus to the deepening of the overall collaboration between the two countries,” the ambassador underlined.

“President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to China to attend the SCO summit and the event commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War is a high recognition of Beijing’s activities as the SCO Presidency, as well as a practical step undertaken to celebrate multilateralism, international equality and justice,” the diplomat underscored.

“As the Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan, I am deeply convinced that China and Azerbaijan have great prospects and potential for pragmatic cooperation. During the visit, the two countries’ leaders had a broad exchange of views on cementing pragmatic cooperation.

Looking ahead, the China-Azerbaijan comprehensive strategic partnership has broad and promising prospects. China stands ready to work with Azerbaijan, guided by the diplomacy of their heads of state as a strategic direction, as well as the important agreements signed at the highest level, and will spare no effort to ensure the successful completion of relevant efforts and promote the further development of bilateral relations,” the ambassador concluded.
