Speaker Sahiba Gafarova meets with incoming Israeli ambassador

Sahiba Gafarova, Azerbaijan’s Speaker of Milli Majlis, met with Ronen Krausz, newly appointed Ambassador of Israel to the country.

During the meeting, the sides hailed the expansion of the cooperation between the two friendly and partner countries, both in the already traditional areas and across number of new areas. They also noted the great potential for further developing these ties.

They described the people-to-people contacts as another indicator of the favorable relations between the two countries and peoples. The sides hailed the fact that Jews have lived and are living now in an atmosphere of peace, friendship and mutual understanding in Azerbaijan, a multicultural and tolerant country. They praised contributions of both the Azerbaijani community and Azerbaijani citizens of Jewish origin living in Israel to the advancement of bilateral relations.

The meeting also highlighted the unique role of parliaments in enhancing relations between the two countries. Recalling her meeting with Speaker of the Knesset of Israel Amir Ohana in Uzbekistan in April this year, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized the significance of contacts and reciprocal visits between the two parliaments, as well as activity of the friendship groups.

During the meeting, the importance of the working visit of President Ilham Aliyev to the United States of America at the invitation of President Donald Trump, the negotiations held there, the agreements reached and the documents signed during the visit was highlighted.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stressed the significance of fulfilling the obligations assumed pursuant to the Washington Agreements, expressing her hope that a peace treaty would be signed between the parties soon.

The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual interest.
