UN World Summit highlights Azerbaijan

An Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov, attended the Second UN World Summit for Social Development held in Doha, Qatar.

Addressing the plenary session, Sharifov highlighted Azerbaijan’s achievements in fulfilling the commitments of the Declaration adopted at the First World Summit on Social Development, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan shares with other countries its innovative practices in public social services, particularly the advantages of the DOST concept and its successful national experience in this field.

During the discussions held within the summit on the topic of expanding the fiscal sphere and attracting financial resources to address hunger and poverty, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan, Hidayat Abdullayev, highlighted the steps taken in the country in social development, as well as strengthening the social protection for vulnerable groups.

He noted that five social reform packages implemented in recent years have resulted in significant increases in social payments, enhanced decent work and employment opportunities, and remarkable achievements in digital social services, with the DOST model gaining high international recognition

At the round table held within the summit, he provided insights into Azerbaijan’s progress in protecting labor and social rights, eliminating gender discrimination, and expanding employment opportunities for vulnerable groups.

At a side event organized by Türkiye’s Ministry of Family and Social Services on the topic “Family-Supported Social Development: A Strategic Approach for a Sustainable Future,” the Deputy Minister highlighted recent measures taken to develop and expand Azerbaijan’s social services system.

On the sidelines of the summit, Deputy Minister Abdullayev met with Kyrgyz Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration Kanat Sagynbaev to discuss prospects for future cooperation.
