The book opens with the quotation of national leader Heydar Aliyev. Prominent politician, who had always paid great attention to the protection of the unique nature of Azerbaijan, said: "I want all of you to become conservationists. Those who harm the nature, hew trees, pollute the nature and spoil it are the enemies of our society and all of us."

The foreword written by H. Bagirov to the publication reads that revenue growth achieved as a result of the dynamic development of economy and directed to the non-oil sector has opened great potential for the implementation of environmental projects in Azerbaijan. While many countries have experienced difficulties due to raging financial crisis, Azerbaijan was implementing global infrastructure projects, and measures aimed at solving environmental problems were announced as priority. By orders of the president, there were created new reserves, areas of previously established ones were expanded, and large-scale works were carried out to install modular water treatment facilities on the Caspian coast. In addition, water treatment plants were also installed in villages, where the population had difficulties with the supply of quality water. More than 450 thousand people mostly residing in the villages along the Kura River were provided with water meeting the World Health Organization standards.

Recently, greening works have gain breadth in the country. Along with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the public association IDEA headed by Leyla Aliyeva actively participates in these events. The publication cites data showing the scale of green plantings. Thus, between the years 2008-2014, there were planted 4,352,933 seedlings and a modern drip irrigation system on 3164 hectares of land.

The book devotes a special place to state reserves, wildlife areas and other conservation facilities. At present, there are 9 national parks, 11 state nature conservation zones and 24 state nature sanctuaries. In general, the area of ​​protected areas is 10.3% of the total territory of the country. The section of the book for each nature reserve is accompanied by numerous photographs of flora and fauna of this unique corner of our country.

The book that consists of 24 chapters shows data on the nature of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts which are currently under the Armenian occupation, and points out the volume of damage caused by the aggressor, who barbarously destroys the natural resources of Azerbaijan. 247,352 hectares of forest, 152 natural monuments and 5 geological features have been destroyed in the occupied territories.

The publication presents statistical data on the implementation of numerous state environmental programs and projects, as well as information about international environmental conventions ratified by the Parliament of Azerbaija
