“We highly appreciate Baku’s sports infrastructure,” Hugo Alonso Castanon, Secretary General of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES Europe), told journalists following the official presentation ceremony marking Baku’s declaration as the World Capital of Sport.
He noted that the main goal is to make sports more popular and accessible to everyone in Azerbaijan, adding, “I am confident we will succeed. Participation in physical activity and sports brings numerous benefits. We know that major, prestigious sporting events are regularly held in your country. We are sure that Baku will be a good example as the World Capital of Sport for 2026.”
