Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that this resolution reflects the European Parliament’s disregard for the principles of respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
"We firmly reject the wording used in the document such as “the existence of political prisoners,” “political persecutions,” “violations of academic freedom and cultural rights,” as well as other accusations. Azerbaijan strictly adheres to the principles of the rule of law, the independence of state institutions, and accountability to its citizens. The independent functioning of democratic institutions, the establishment of the main elements of civil society, and other factors demonstrate Azerbaijan’s determination and will to advance along the path of democracy," Sahiba Gafarova added.
