On December 20, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Finance Samir Babayev, Co-Chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Governments of Azerbaijan and Montenegro, met in Baku with a delegation led by Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized that Azerbaijan–Montenegro relations are based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect, and partnership, noting that these ties rest on a solid foundation laid by the Declaration on Friendship and Partnership signed during President Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to Montenegro in 2013.
Samir Babayev highlighted the role of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation in advancing bilateral relations, describing it as an important platform for translating political will into concrete economic outcomes. It was noted that the agenda of the next meeting of the Joint Commission, scheduled for March 2026, will cover a wide range of issues, including trade diversification, investments in the non-oil sector, green energy, tourism, infrastructure, and small and medium-sized entrepreneurship.
The meeting also addressed trade and investment matters, with Montenegrin companies invited to take advantage of investment opportunities available in Azerbaijan’s industrial zones and other priority sectors.
In turn, Ervin Ibrahimović stated that Montenegro attaches great importance to the development of relations with Azerbaijan, underscoring the role of political dialogue and high-level reciprocal visits in deepening bilateral ties. He emphasized the strong potential for expanding cooperation in the economic, energy, tourism, and humanitarian fields.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
