Peruvian Congress adopts statement on 34th anniversary of Khojaly genocide

The Congress of the Republic of Peru has adopted a statement on the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

Members of the Peru-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group, the diplomatic corps accredited in Peru, and various media representatives gathered to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide.

During the event, Rosangella Barbarán, a member of the Peru-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group, extended her heartfelt condolences to the people of Azerbaijan. She emphasized that the 1992 tragedy remains deeply etched in the nation's collective memory.

Speaking at the event, Azerbaijani embassy official Gultan Gafgazli-Novruzova highlighted the history and consequences of the Khojaly genocide and Armenian aggression. She underscored the vital importance of preserving the memory of the massacre, calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable to ensure such tragedies are never repeated. The diplomat noted that the Khojaly tragedy has gained significant international legal recognition, including from the Congress of Peru.

The statement expressed support for international efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the Caucasus, specifically referencing the high-level meeting held at the White House on August 8, 2025.

The document concluded by acknowledging that Azerbaijanis worldwide are united in honoring the victims, offering deep condolences to the families, the government, and the people of Azerbaijan.

The participants watched a documentary highlighting the Khojaly genocide, as well as received books and brochures detailing the genocide.
