Inmate serving life for killing Azerbaijani in Armenia to be released
An inmate serving a life sentence for killing an Azerbaijani in Armenia will be released.
The interdepartmental commission of Armenia has decided to release Sogomon Kocharyan from remaining part of his sentence due to his health problems, according to Kavkazskiy uzel.

He is reportedly suffering from heart failure.

In 1995, Sogomon Kocharyan, accused of killing an Iranian citizen of Azerbaijani origin, was sentenced to death. However, in 1991 Armenia declared a moratorium on death penalty; and in 2003 after the adoption of the new Criminal Code, it was abolished. His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.

A person sentenced to life imprisonment will be released ahead of time for the first time in Armenia.
