Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Otar Danelia said the aforesaid in a statement to APA’s Georgia bureau.
He noted that the UN provides assistance to Georgia in the development of agriculture. “We are implementing pilot projects and programs for agricultural development in Kvemo Kartli, giving low-interest loans and grants to farmers,” said the minister.
Danelia said that they are aware of lack of agricultural land for the rural population, as well as lack of land in areas populated by Azerbaijanis in Georgia: “Georgia is a small country and there is not enough land for everybody. Of course, there are shortcomings in this field. The parliament is about to adopt a law on land. We will gradually solve matters concerning the population, especially citizens of Azerbaijani origin.”
The Minister said that the sale of land to foreigners was stopped in Kvemo-Kartli, Sagarejo, Gardabani and other regions densely populated by Azerbaijanis: “We are aware of all problems regarding the sale of lands. There were many shortcomings with the land reform project carried out by the former government. We will gradually solve these problems,” he said.
