Georgia, Azerbaijan committed to strategic cooperation - FM
"I highly appreciate the exemplary cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan," Georgian Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili told reporters on Oct.19.
Kvirikashvili made the remarks following the meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku.

He said relations between the two nations continue on the basis of fraternal ties.

“During the meeting with Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, we had an extensive discussion on bilateral ties, reiterating our mutual respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the two countries,” the Georgian FM said, adding that Georgia and Azerbaijan are committed to continuing the political dialogue and strategic cooperation.

“We would like to note energy cooperation as one of the core areas in bilateral ties,” he said.

The FM said Georgia is one of Azerbaijan’s main energy consumers, and the two countries play a transit role and have stated their commitment to the improvement of the Southern Gas Corridor.

“We’ll spare no efforts for the transport corridor to work more exemplarily. We’re interested in the development of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. We’re working to create the necessary business environment between the two countries. We’re trying to expand our relations in this area because the potential has not been used to the maximum extent,” he noted.

Kvirikashvili also noted that he highly appreciates a trilateral meeting of the Georgian, Azerbaijani, and Turkish foreign ministers. “This has turned out to be an essential mechanism in international cooperation,” said the FM.
