Natig Aliyev - issues discussed at OPEC meeting not so important for us
"I decided there is no need to attend the meeting”

“Though we were invited to the OPEC meeting, I thought that the issues to be discussed there are not so important for us. Therefore, I decided not to attend the meeting”, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Natig Aliyev told journalists.

Aliyev stressed that despite discussion of several issues, including reduction of oil production, at the OPEC meeting, Saudi Arabia and other OPEC countries have never done it: “Undoubtedly, if OPEC had passed such decision, the oil price would have increased. This would also be useful for us. At the same time, non-OPEC countries also made efforts to reduce oil production”.

“You know that the oil produced in Azerbaijan does not belong to only Azerbaijan, but to consortium. Therefore, this decision cannot be passed by only state or government”, Aliyev said.
